Asphalt Driveway
This composite material used for construction, especially for paving. It consists of bitumen, a semi solid black and sticky material that keeps the mineral aggregates like sand and rocks bonded. We mix asphalt and aggregates in different way to create various mixtures. Mastic asphalt, sheet asphalt, natural asphalt and warm mix concrete are some of them. Each of them has different characteristics, responding accordingly to braking efficiency, durability and tire wear.
The hot mix asphalt is formed by heating the binder in order to lessen its viscosity. On the other hand, the warm mix asphalt use waxes and emulations along with water sometimes to asphalt binding, allowing quick availability of the driveway for use. The cold mix is made by emulsifying asphalt with both water and soap. Again, this way the viscosity is reduced. The cut-back concrete is created by immersing the binder in kerosene, whereas mastic asphalt is produced by heating in a green cooker. Since, asphalt is recyclable; it is eco-friendly too.
Tarmac Driveway
Tarmac is often thought to be the most cost effective material for surfacing a driveway. However, if you want to landscape a small area this might be expensive. Since red tarmacadam is costlier than block paving, a lot of people opt for the later. Having said this, one cannot ignore the popularity of tarmac.
To create tarmac driveways, tar is needed to spread on the surface and it is after that typical layer of macadam is laid, followed by sealing. The method is quite simple and doesn’t need much time investment.
